My Sisters' Sorrows

A warrior filled with courage rare,
Did seek all evil to ensnare,
Its pow'r to vanquish in the deeps,
Yet now in silence still she sleeps,
Afflicted yet with visions told
To none that life does still behold.

An ancient evil she did seek,
Behind it, softly, once did sneak,
In earnest lifted high her sword,
Yet calmly cut it through her chord
Of life, and to the ground did fall
Her blade, when silence cold did call.

A beauty bore, through her façade
Perfection pure; 'tis said she trod
A life of peace and joy and hope,
Yet now does in her blindness grope
For that which was, but cannot be

Exhausted, fell upon her knees,
Yet now she has no pain to ease
Through pray'r or hopeless, lonesome cries
To cold, impassive, angry eyes.

She asked but for a crust of bread,
Yet turnèd not a single head
To look and see the maiden reel
With pain intense that she did feel
And fall unconscious to the ground
By vultures only to be found.
