The image is a representation of this character in the poem:
A maiden wracked with hunger's fire
Begged vainly for to numb its ire,
Exhausted, fell upon her knees,
Yet now she has no pain to ease
Through pray'r or hopeless, lonesome cries
To cold, impassive, angry eyes.
She asked but for a crust of bread,
Yet turnèd not a single head
To look and see the maiden reel
With pain intense that she did feel
And fall unconscious to the ground
By vultures only to be found.
