Gypsy, or a Dainty Pirate by racehorse87 Gypsy, or a Dainty Pirate by racehorse87
Dressing up for a costume party. I aimed for pirate, and I think that I landed in gypsy. Either way, I'm happy.

The laced bodice/corset deal was made by me. It's reversible. =D

The blouse was originially olive green, but I bleached it.

The skirt is from Reitman's.

I wore this outfit also to the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire later on in the summer.

I like this a lot! I'm aiming for this exact sort of in-between look when I go to the Renaissance Fair. It's a wonderful shot as well as wonderful inspiration.

True. It was my first Renaissance festival that year. I came up with a more piratical look for the next year: racehorse87.deviantart.com/art…

Awsome costume =D. I have a quiston, for the renaissance faire I'm going as a pirate and I was wondering how you got the headscarff thing [whatever you call it XD] like that?

I hope that you were able to sort the headscarf out yourself, as this is clearly too late to be helpful, but in case anyone else is wondering ... the scarf is a long rectangle and I basically made a knot in the headscarf and used a lot of bobby pins to get it to stay that way. This is easier with a square scarf, which I tried out the year after: racehorse87.deviantart.com/art…

Well, that could also be a cute pirate wench. Remember, skirts are good for hiding blades ;)

Pirates are definitely where it's at. I actually dressed up as one this year. Now where did that picture go ...

Thank you, I'm glad you like how the shirt turned out! I was aiming for white, but I actually like this color more.

If you can ever make it to the faire, it's a blast. I actually came from Canada to go see it. ;) :D

Really? I definitely think I'll have to road trip. I want to say it's about a 3 - 3 1/2 hour drive from me. And it would be worth it.

As someone else mentioned, pants would be more piratey, since skirt+boat=skirt getting soaked/ripped/you going overboard. ;) Also, instead of big fancy boots, no shoes (not always practical) or hemp sandals would be equally good, since unless you're the captain, you're likely to be unshod. A friend of mine had hemp sandals, and he looked like a shipwrecked sailor when he'd ren faire.

Haha, nice. I would be a very useless pirate in this outfit. :giggle:

I like the idea of hemp sandals! Are those often sold at faire?

Hmm you know, I don't think I've ever seen 'em there actually...But each faire is different of course. I googled up hemp sandals and found these: [link] Those look pretty good for a sailor, methinks.

Thanks, I'm glad you like it. I agree, it really is gypsy.

The general consensus is that I need a tri-cornered hat, and possibly tall leather boots to get pirate going. :p

Hmm, I really, REALLY quite like it, you're just so ... cute! ^^

For a more pirate-y look, I'd recommend just throwing on some black fighter pants with thigh-high boots. Maybe add a sash too, a red one would probably make your outfit really pop (like the red in your skirt). I don't think you'd need a hat either, since that head wrap kinda does the job.

... lol, You're just so cute and dainty, I wonder how threatening a pirate you'd look. :)

Hmmmm...pants would make it more pirate-y, and I'll keep the sash in mind too. Thigh-high boots would be incredible, but I would have to acquire some first. :p

At this point, I don't think that I would pose much of a visual threat. ;) :D

Oooo, I actually came across that site once. They do have nice boots!

I would be scared to buy shoes online though because I'd be worried that they wouldn't fit.
